Preparing for gold leaf

Some of the work that goes into a gold leaf finish.
I'm working on two pieces at the same time.

Rabbit skin glue being warmed in a water bath.

Applying the first coat of rsg.

First coats of gesso, also warming in water bath.

After several (6-7) coats of gesso.

After drying, sanding cutting and polishing.
After this I'll be sealing and adding color before leafing.

No Bright Line

I finally had some time to sit down and get some gold leaf on this piece. The work is constructed of bass wood and birch plywood, roughly 12 inches tall.

Femme, (after Picasso), 2011

After the Pablo Picasso painting in the collection of the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.

The piece is constructed of wood.
It is painted with enamel in a style similar to the dazzle camouflage series of mine.

Bronze casting

So lately I've been building the equipment to outfit my foundry. I'll be using oil bonded sand (a formula called K-bond). The idea is to cast bronze pieces. It will take a while to get everything together.
This is a molding bench in progress.
A pair of lifting tongs to get the crucible out of the furnace.
A pouring shank to hold a #16 crucible, about 50 pounds of bronze.
